Bidar Video Role
Bidar Video provided broadcast-style commencement live streaming for Zaytuna College in Berkeley, using multi-camera coverage, clean audio, live switching, backup internet, weather-ready production, and a fast post-event recording delivery.
The Challenge
Zaytuna College needed a reliable live commencement stream that would help families, alums, supporters, and remote viewers experience the ceremony even if they could not attend in person. For colleges, universities, private schools, and Bay Area campus event teams, commencement is one of the most important events of the year. There are no retakes, and remote viewers need to clearly see the ceremony, hear every speech, and follow each important moment.
The project required more than placing one camera at the back of the audience. A professional graduation live stream needs planning, clean audio, multiple camera angles, live switching, stable internet, backup systems, and a calm crew that understands the pace and protocol of a formal academic ceremony.
The challenge was to produce a clear broadcast-style stream for an outdoor commencement environment. Outdoor ceremonies bring additional production risks, including changing weather, wind, lighting changes, long camera distances, power and cable management, and internet reliability. The production also needed to capture processional movement, podium speeches, stage crossings, audience reactions, and the overall atmosphere of the ceremony without distracting from the event itself.
Bidar Video approached the project with a planning-first live streaming workflow. Before the event, we reviewed camera positions, stage sightlines, audio access, internet options, lighting conditions, crew logistics, and the run of show. This pre-production process helped us develop a technical plan before the day of the ceremony and reduce the risk of last-minute surprises.
For the live production, we used a multi-camera setup designed for commencement coverage. The setup included a wide safety shot for the full stage and ceremony context, a podium angle for speeches, tighter coverage for expressions and key moments, a dedicated angle for graduates crossing the stage, and an elevated crane/jib-style perspective to add movement and scale to the live stream.
Clean audio was a priority. For commencement, viewers need to hear speeches, prayers, announcements, and graduate names clearly. We coordinated audio for the live stream, monitored levels throughout the program, and built redundancy into the production so the final stream and recording would remain usable.
The live switching workflow helped keep the ceremony organized for remote viewers. Using a professional switching setup, we were able to move between camera angles, maintain visual rhythm, and keep the program clear as the ceremony moved from one segment to the next. The wireless intercom kept the crew, camera operators, technical director, audio support, and producer connected throughout the event.
Because commencement live streaming depends heavily on internet reliability, we planned for connectivity and backup options. For campus and outdoor event environments where Wi-Fi can be restricted, congested, or unreliable, backup internet planning is essential to protect the stream from buffering, dropouts, or last-minute network issues.
Weather readiness was also part of the production plan. Outdoor Bay Area ceremonies can shift quickly from clear conditions to wind or rain. Hence, the production required protected cameras, stable tripod placement, cable management, power protection, and a crew workflow that could keep the stream steady without disrupting the ceremony.
The final deliverable gave Zaytuna College a professional live stream for remote viewers and a clean recording that could be archived, shared, embedded, or republished after the event. The project shows how professional commencement live streaming can help institutions extend the ceremony beyond campus and serve families, alums, supporters, and stakeholders who are watching from anywhere.
